Why attend

This session will launch the new IUCN-WCPA technical report “Enhancing Climate Change Mitigation in Protected Areas”. Policies and methodologies that facilitate the use of PCAs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions will be discussed through a presentation, case studies and dialogue on practical use of the report.

Session Description

Protecting carbon-dense ecosystems is the most practical Natural Climate Solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Through presentations on the new IUCN-WCPA technical report, associated case studies, and a companion guide for managers and policy-makers, practical ways in which protected areas can be assessed, monitored and financed to facilitate climate change mitigation will be discussed. The format will encourage participants to share their experiences in identifying and assessing PCAs for climate change mitigation, with a view to add to the case studies already compiled.
