Session Description
The Qur’anic Botanic Garden at Hamad Bin Khalifa University presents an integrated, science-driven model for biodiversity conservation in arid regions of West Asia, aligned with the transformative vision of IUCN Congress 2025. The initiative focuses on three key pillars: (1) Ex-Situ Conservation Horticulture – preserving over 250 plant taxa cited in the Qur’an and Hadith through advanced techniques such as ultra-cold seed banking and desert-adapted micropropagation; (2) Rawda Restoration – restoring native habitats using scientifically guided site selection, nursery propagation, and community-led planting campaigns; (3) Education for Regional Biodiversity Stewardship – linking Islamic environmental ethics with hands-on labs and augmented reality tools to engage youth and marginalized groups. By integrating tradition, science, and community participation, this event showcases how culturally rooted and faith-based approaches can advance biodiversity protection, climate resilience, and equitable conservation outcomes.Organized by
