Biography
Julie Hanta Razafimanahaka is a Malagasy conservation ecologist and Director of Madagasikara Voakajy, an NGO dedicated to safeguarding Madagascar’s unique biodiversity. Inspired as a teenager by the indri’s haunting call in Andasibe, she has devoted her career to protecting wildlife while supporting the people who share their landscapes. With a background in forestry and an MSc in Applied Ecology and Conservation, Julie has led transformative initiatives creating locally managed protected areas. Winner of the 2021 Tusk Award for Conservation in Africa, she believes deeply in the power of local communities and collaboration to achieve lasting conservation and development goals.
