Session Description

Reaching the global biodiversity target will require bold new financing solutions. Protected and Conserved Areas urgently need resources to strengthen governance, management, and monitoring, yet traditional funding alone cannot meet this challenge. This session brings together innovators demonstrating how outcomes-based finance can bridge the gap. Speakers will showcase how linking finance to measurable conservation results unlocks new capital. The Sustainable Finance Coalition will share lessons on biodiversity credits and blended finance, while experiences from Finance Montréal and global funds highlight how markets and multilateral actors can scale solutions. The IUCN Green List Standard will be presented as a trusted assurance framework, ensuring credibility, transparency, and equity, with a concrete example from the proposed Coral Reef Bond in Indonesia. Together, these approaches illustrate how finance can become a driving force in achieving the Global Biodiversity Framework.
