Session Description

When a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on 25 April 2015, it caused mass devastation for 1.8 million people. With such high levels of displacement and humanitarian need, people across Nepal needed accurate and trusted information to help them first survive and then to begin to rebuild their homes and their lives. This session, led by Shobhana Gurung Pradhan, BBC Media Action Interim Regional Director for South Asia, looks at how BBC Media Action used radio to save lives and habitat by launching Milijuli Nepali, a broadcast that ended up reaching the entire country.
