Why attend

Challenge your perspective regarding the business side of sustainability for small&medium forestry enterprises. There is a large opportunity to strengthen and recover forest areas in this region based on sustainable forest / integrated landscape management.

Session Description

Small & medium forestry enterprises (SMFE) in Central America are fundamental to the achievement of Sustainable Development goals. They currently require better business environments to be able to survive and thrive in the next decades. What happens to the forests if these business endeavours fail? Long term projections are not encouraging. Global customer sustainability demands are constantly upgrading requirements for products without a similar awareness for the cost of complying for enterprises and the lack of efficiency of bureacracy related to forest management. Deficient governance and climate conditions can further sharpen these issues, decreasing the capacity for holistic wealth and services generation for all stakeholders. A stable, positive business environment will nurture innovation and creativity, crucial capacities that need to be strengthened going forward.
