In this session you will get to know a powerful yet often overlooked enabler of effective nature-based education, traditional knowledge and practices and local realities; and you will acquire better appreciation of the fact that inherited sustainable practices are not mutually exclusive with modern innovations.
Session Description
The session will showcase the need for nature-based education that integrates traditional knowledge and local realities. It will feature several examples from around the world where efforts for introducing nature-based learning curricula and activities into education and learning systems were not sufficiently effective due to their being oblivious to local realities, societal and economic needs and traditional sustainable practices. It will also show examples of nature-based learning where traditional knowledge and local considerations are mainstreamed thus making a profound impact on learners’ behaviors towards nature. The session intends to raise questions for participants to ponder at; for example, how to draw a line between what generally works everywhere and what needs adaptation.Organized by
