Both my academic background in environmental geography at the intersection of natural and social sciences and my work for the UN Environment Programme and specifically the Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) since 2005 have been geared toward putting my passion for conservation and sustainable use of natural resources into practice. Through my work I have gained significant experience in the field of international environmental policy and cooperation, as well as programme planning and implementation. My focus has mostly been on conservation of aquatic (mostly marine) species and management of the threats they face. I also lead the work of CMS on the conservation implications of animal culture and social learning.
