Javier FAJARDO

Biography

I am a conservation scientist focused on the relationship between biodiversity conservation and society. My research integrates ecological, social, and economic dimensions into conservation planning to inform more just, equitable, and effective policies. I have worked on spatial prioritisation of conservation, evaluation of protected area effectiveness, and using a land systems lens to conservation analysis. Currently, I lead research on the social implications of expanding protected and conserved areas under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework’s Target 3, using spatial and interdisciplinary analysis to explore who may be affected by different approaches to implementing conservation.
