Alla Aleksanyan

Biography

Dr. Alla Aleksanyan is a leading Armenian conservation biologist and Head of the Department of Plant Diversity and Ecosystem Studies at the International Scientific-Educational Center of NAS of Armenia and Senior Research at the Institute of Botany after A. Takhtajyan NAS RA. With over 17 years of experience in biodiversity research, ecosystem management, and international policy processes, she has played a central role in advancing Armenia’s national strategies on biodiversity conservation, climate adaptation, and protected area management.

Her expertise spans vegetation ecology, forest restoration, invasive species, and climate change impacts on ecosystems. She has led and co-led national and international projects supported by the EU, UNDP, GIZ, CNF, and the World Bank, and contributed to Armenia’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan development.

Dr. Aleksanyan is actively engaged in global science–policy platforms and collaborates within European, regional and international  professional networks. She is also at the forefront of capacity development and education, mentoring the next generation of conservation scientists. Through her leadership, scientific contributions, and policy engagement, she bridges research and practice to strengthen biodiversity conservation and ecosystem resilience in Armenia and beyond.
