Sarah Flynn is the Director of the Centre for Global Education. She has a BSc & MSc in Molecular Genetics, an MA in Sociology, and is completing a PhD in Sociology at the University of Alberta. Sarah has worked in both biomedical and clinical research with the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, and was formerly the Assistant Director of the Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services, University of Alberta.
Sarah’s collaborative, community-oriented non-profit role, and post-secondary teaching in the areas of multicultural/antiracist education, global citizenship, education for sustainable development, and social justice has received continuous funding. She has expertise in conducting projects and programs in educational contexts, success in leading many teams including several large international collaborations, and experience with a wide range of qualitative research methodologies from ongoing work with CGE.
Her current projects include international leadership in an online dialogue on the global impacts of climate issues alongside Environment and Climate Change Canada, national leadership in ESD and global citizenship in UNESCO Associated Schools, a national exploration of shifting notions of democracy and citizenship education in partnership with the Senate of Canada, and a national conversation on the health and wellness of 2SLGBTTIQ+ students in Canadian high schools with the Public Health Agency of Canada.
