Iain STEWART

Biography

Iain Stewart joined IUCN in 2022 and is the Director of Membership, Commissions and Communications. This role sees Iain working closely with IUCN Commissions, Members and Secretariat to develop and implement both a membership and communications strategies for IUCN, as well as providing and developing the support from the Secretariat for the Commissions. Iain has over twenty years' experience in communicating science-based solutions in areas ranging from biodiversity to climate change to ecosystem management. This includes significantly growing the membership base of the international environmental research organization, IIASA (International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis) as well as extending the reach and influence of its research. Prior to developing all external relations matters for IIASA, Iain ran the Institute’s Communications and Publications departments. And before this, he ran the press office of the UK's Economic and Social Research Council, and was a journalist (UK's Sunday Times and Business 2.0 magazine). He has a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology and Sociology and the UK's Chartered Institute of Public Relations' postgraduate qualification in public relations.
