Session Description

This session will explore effective strategies for applying the Mitigation Hierarchy for biodiversity impacts management and compensation in business and conservation contexts. The focus is on real-world challenges and solutions. The session will feature diverse perspectives from practitioners, businesses, and researchers, and will invite audience participation to identify priority areas for future guidance and collaboration. Drawing on the work of the IMEC Thematic Group within IUCN’s Commission on Ecosystem Management and partners, the panel will discuss the IUCN Nature Positive For Business Report and Technical Briefs on subjects such as avoidance, cumulative Impacts, additionality, aligning mitigation with biodiversity targets, principles for Nature Positive claims, quantification metrics, and Additional Conservation Actions. Contributions from this session will serve as a foundation for enabling better practice and fostering alignment across sectors.
