Sean Nazerali (BIOFUND - Director for Innovative Financing) is a Biodiversity and Natural Resource Management specialist with 30 years of experience in international development, of which the last 22 years in Mozambique. He is the co-author of the Feasibility Study on Sustainable Financing of Conservation Areas in Mozambique, and the author of, amongst others, the current Financial Plan for the country’s protected area network. He has been instrumental in bringing the concept of biodiversity offsets to Mozambique, leading the design of a Roadmap for the country. He has been involved with BIOFUND since before its creation, facilitating its foundation in 2011. He is currently Director of Innovative Financing where he is responsible for developing new mechanisms such as biodiversity offsets, PES, impact investment, development of the wildlife economy, carbon finance, and other private sector support. One of the strategic leaders of the Foundation, he has helped BIOFUND become the largest Conservation Trust Fund in Africa by annual activity, with more than 20M USD per year being spent on conservation programs across the country, including all the publicly managed protected areas and a number of the privately managed ones as well.
