Carl Gustaf specializes in ocean investment strategies for philanthropic organizations as well as equity funds. Carl Gustaf has worked with Mission Blue as Managing Director and CEO and Senior Advisor since May 2021 after having served as Director for the IUCN Global Marine and Polar Programme for 20 years. At IUCN, his primary responsibility has been to develop the programs in six areas: polar conservation, global coastal management issues, high seas governance, climate change/nature-based solutions, ocean plastic reduction and working with marine and coastal-based industries. Previous to IUCN, working for the World Bank for more than 13 years, he focused on investments in coastal and marine management in many countries, including Argentina, China, Eritrea, Indonesia, Mexico, Mozambique, Seychelles and Uruguay. His focus is advising on current conservation challenges like climate change, biodiversity conservation and extractive industries. Through his extensive global experience Carl Gustaf helps clients develop investment strategies for ocean conservation. He also helped develop several investment instruments like the Blue Action Fund and served on the board and advisory board of many philanthropic organizations.
