Philip Roche is currently Director of Research in Landscape Ecology and Ecosystem Services at INRAE. He is also Co-Director of the research programme on Nature-based Solutions (PEPR SoluBiod, France 2030), which aims to develop solutions for coastal, urban and agricultural environments and protected areas. He was a Senior Lecturer at the University of Aix-Marseille for ten years before joining Cemagref in 2007, which became Irstea in 2012, as Director of Research in Landscape Ecology. Author of more than 90 scientific publications, he is a recognised expert in plant ecology, landscape ecology and ecosystem services. His areas of expertise cover biodiversity, spatial analysis, community and ecosystem ecology, modelling, ecosystem services, and the science-policy interface. He was scientific advisor in charge of biodiversity for the MESR (2021-2023). In this capacity, he was a member of the French delegation at the COP15 Biodiversity Conference in Kunming-Montreal as lead author and negotiator for Europe, contributing significantly to the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework. He chairs the board of directors of Alternet, a network of natural and social scientists working in 32 research institutes in 21 European countries. He also chairs the Scientific Council of the Alpilles Regional Nature Park. He is also a member of the Scientific Committee of the National Biodiversity Data Programme and the Scientific and Technical Council of EFESE.
