Biography

Robertina Brajanoska
Executive Director | Macedonian Ecological Society (MES)

With over 24 years of experience in nature conservation at both national and trans-boundary levels, and a background in agricultural sciences, I have an extensive career spanning government and non-governmental sectors. Currently, I serve as the Executive Director of the Macedonian Ecological Society (MES), a BirdLife partner in North Macedonia, where I oversee the organization’s strategic development and overall management.

Previously, I spent approximately eight years at the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning as an advisor on biodiversity. In this role, I was actively involved in policy development, including the preparation of national nature conservation legislation and the transposition of the EU Acquis into national law. I contributed to the implementation of key international environmental agreements and coordinated the development of the National Emerald Network (2002–2008).

My expertise includes designing protected areas and ecological network, support of protected areas management, preparation of management plans through multi stakeholder involvement, EU integration processes, policy and strategic document development, and project administration. I played a leading role in coordinating the establishment of both the National Ecological Network (MAK-NEN) and the National Representative Protected Areas Network; involved in developing proposals for new national protected areas as well as trans-boundary protected areas. I have also contributed significantly to national biodiversity strategies (NBSAP), national spatial plan, national reporting for the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and reports related to the EU accession process in the field of nature conservation.
