Session Description

This session brings together global experts to explore the expanding role of biobanking in conservation. The discussion will highlight why biobanking is essential for genetic rescue and population sustainability, while showcasing real-world applications—from Thailand to the USA, including breeding efforts for the Houbara and Indian bustards, as well as initiatives for plants and corals. Panellists will emphasize cross-taxon synergies and how laboratory advances translate into field conservation. The session will also examine emerging technologies and the ethical considerations shaping the future of biodiversity biobanking.
