Short Bio – Raed Bani Hani
Raed Bani Hani is an environmental leader from Jordan with extensive experience in governance, conservation, and sustainable development. He has served in senior roles at the Ministry of Environment, including as Assistant Secretary General, and has worked closely with IUCN, UN agencies, and regional NGOs on biodiversity conservation, rangeland management, and climate change initiatives.
With a career spanning decades, Raed has been actively engaged in addressing the environmental impacts of conflicts, climate change, desertification, and overgrazing in West Asia. He has contributed to international conventions such as the CBD and UNCCD and led initiatives promoting nature-based solutions and sustainable land management.
As a former Chair of the IUCN National and Regional Committee for West Asia, Raed has deep insight into the region’s environmental challenges and opportunities. His vision combines regional focus with a global perspective, aiming to strengthen IUCN’s role in post-conflict recovery, climate resilience, and sustainability.
Raed is committed to fostering partnerships between governments, NGOs, and communities to advance conservation goals and ensure resilient ecosystems for future generations.
