qualifications of MScs Vilmos KISZEL Vilmos KISZEL has been a leading environmentalist & educator in Hungary for three decades. Well during the communist era, with his NGO challenged restrictive practices of the regime by launching grassroot environmental & social initiatives. His graduation is astronomer, planetary sciences & teacher, studied geo-sciences, biology & environmental law as well. President of Göncöl Foundation, IUCN member NG1233, since 1986. Held various academic positions, since 2017 Senior Researcher and at present lecturer National University of Public Service. He was member & chair of National Council on Environment between 1996-2006. Participated also in international projects; World Bank conservation expert in Black Sea nutrient reduction & hydropower, member of Steering Committee of UNEP/TEMATEA on CBD. Actively participated in the works of IUCN for two decades. Member of WCEL and WCPA. Regional Councillor 2008-2012 & 2021-25 of the respective region. During his councillorship has initiated & coached motions & decisions of strategical importance and contributed to several other essential matters. His objective is reinforcing direct democracy, empowering membership and providing enhanced co-operative works by offices and membership of Union together. These objectives can be implemented in harmony with principles, continuity, stability and full respect of IUCN’s heritage, organisational strengths and achievements.

activities in IUCN of MScs Vilmos KISZEL Actively participated in the works of IUCN for two decades. Member of World Commission on Environmental Law since 1996 and World Commission of Protected Areas, since 2004. Established the National Committee for Hungary of IUCN in 2003 and chaired it as well. Regional Councillor from 2008 to 2012 of respective region, co-chair of Governance Standing Committee and member of Finance and Audit Standing Committee; and from 2021 to 2025, during these latter four years member of Program and Policy Standing Committee and Public Sector Engagement Taskforce. During his councillorship has initiated and coached motions to World Conservation Congresses, and prepared decisions of Council, several on governance, economic and ethical issues, and contributed to many other essential matters.
