Dama Gazelle Conservation Breeding at Al Ain Zoo

Session Description

The dama gazelle is one of Al Ain Zoo’s conservation priority species. We are one of the few zoos in the world to maintain populations of both addra gazelle and mhorr gazelle. We support the in-situ monitoring work of one of the most important remaining wild populations, carried out by the Sahara Conservation Fund, and collaborate in other international conservation initiatives. In 2014 Al Ain Zoo embarked on an internationally important breeding experiment using a subset of its addra gazelle and mhorr gazelle populations. This research was documented as Objective 6.4 in the first dama gazelle conservation strategy published in 2014 (RZSS & IUCN Antelope Specialist Group, 2014).
