Candidate info

Particular qualifications:

With over 18 years of experience in environmental law and policy, I have a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in conservation. As part of my involvement in IUCN, I have led governance reforms that strengthened democratic participation and positioned national committees as key voices in decision-making. My leadership in the South American Committee (2017–2019) facilitated the transition to direct voting, enhancing transparency and accountability. From 2015 to 2021, I coordinated the Argentine National Committee, establishing it as a key reference for government and civil society, driving impactful advocacy and policy change in socio-environmental issues at local and national levels. In 2021, I was honored to be elected as an IUCN Councillor, a role in which I have worked to foster a more cohesive Union through enhanced Council-Secretariat collaboration and increased member engagement. My approach is rooted in transparency, equity, and collective action. I prioritize inclusive governance, amplifying the voices of Indigenous Peoples and local communities while addressing the risks faced by environmental defenders, particularly women. Building on my experience as a Councillor over the last four years and guided by a 20-year vision and a renewed strategic program—developed through participatory processes—I remain committed to ensuring IUCN is an effective, just, and member-driven institution, staying relevant in an increasingly complex world.

Experience in fields of concern to IUCN:

I am an environmental lawyer with extensive experience in biodiversity law, governance, and advocacy at all levels. I am well-recognized for building collective movements and facilitating civil society engagement for greater impact. For nearly 15 years, I have been deeply engaged in IUCN across its diverse constituencies. The NGO I work for, which supports me in this endeavor, is a long-standing and committed IUCN member. I have collaborated with governments, NGOs, and academia to develop policies integrating environmental protection, human rights, and gender equality. IUCN must lead in elevating biodiversity in discussions to tackle the multidimensional world crises, translating global commitments into national action. My experience equips me to contribute meaningfully to this mission. IUCN’s mission must be implemented with fairness and impact, ensuring governance structures collaborate effectively while addressing the needs of those on the frontlines of conservation.
