Particular qualifications:

I bring a strong background in governance and strategic leadership, having served on several boards and committees, including the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, IUCN, United Nations, GIZ, and several local and international NGOs, where I contributed to organizational decision-making, long-term planning, and conventions, including CBD and UNCCD. My commitment to conservation, equity, and sustainable development is demonstrated through active involvement in projects that prioritize both environmental protection and social justice, such as NBSAB. With experience in regional and international networks, I am able to offer a global perspective on IUCN’s goals and priorities, while advocating for regional needs. I also aim to foster partnerships between the IUCN West Asia office, regional NGOs, and governments to strengthen collaboration and drive impactful conservation initiatives. Also, I want to follow up on the challenges and obstacles faced by the members of the IUCN West Asia office and the regional members, ensuring their concerns are addressed and facilitating solutions. I also plan to facilitate the exchange of experiences between the members of the West Asia region to foster learning. My commitment to IUCN’s mission is reflected in my readiness to devote the necessary time and energy to Council duties, including committee participation and outreach.

Experience in fields of concern to IUCN:

I was previously a member of the National & Regional Committee of IUCN, and later served as the Chair of the Committee. I was among the individuals involved in preparations for the 2000 IUCN Congress held in Amman, Jordan. My collaboration with IUCN began when the IUCN West Asia office was first established, working alongside IUCN through the Ministry of Environment. I have actively participated in the implementation and follow-up of several IUCN projects, including the HERD-Healthy Ecosystems for Rangeland Development project. This experience has provided me with a deep understanding of IUCN's priorities, particularly in areas of biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, and environmental policy, and has allowed me to contribute to the organization's work in the region.
