Fahd ALGUTHMY

Dr Al-Guthmy is a multi-disciplined professional with over 15 years of experience spanning the private sector, government, and non-governmental organizations.

He is currently a Senior Environmental Finance and Blue Economy Specialist for the General Organization for the Conservation of Coral Reefs and Sea Turtles (SHAMS) in Saudi Arabia. In this role, he leads the design of innovative financing mechanisms to mobilize capital for coral reef and sea turtle conservation in the Red Sea, while shaping a sustainable blue economy aligned with global, regional and national frameworks.

Prior to this, Fahd was Programme Director at the Wildlife Conservation Society, leading a blended finance initiative funded by the Global Fund for Coral Reefs - a $625M UN-led investment vehicle where he helped structure a financing pathway and sourced scalable, investment-ready solutions for the Western Indian Ocean region.

Dr Al-Guthmy is also a seasoned banker, having worked in relationship and portfolio management growing multi-million-dollar assets and liabilities. Other roles included supporting an international organization in Japan on carbon market projects, lecturing at Keio university, and leading a $13M GEF6-funded wildlife conservation programme managed by UNDP.
