We invite you to join us in celebrating this pivotal moment as we chart a new course for subnational conservation leadership—bold, collaborative, and essential to securing a nature-positive future.
Descripción de la sesión
Recognizing the central role of subnational governments in conservation leadership, IUCN Members adopted a historic resolution at the 2020 World Conservation Congress (WCC 2020 Dec 138) to formally include subnational governments in the membership of IUCN. The vision and action of cities, regions, states, provinces, territories, and other subnational entities are essential to achieving shared global climate and biodiversity goals. This session will highlight several major developments: the announcement of new subnational members and membership applicants, the launch of innovative plans and strategies, and the unveiling of new investments and funding commitments. In addition to confirmed speakers, as momentum builds among subnational actors, this session will provide a platform to highlight late-developing announcements. Together, these milestones represent not only institutional progress but the emergence of a powerful coalition of leaders ready to accelerate action for people and nature.Keynote speaker
