Por qué asistir
Concerned about climate overshoot? You should be aware of the technologies and approaches being proposed and trialled to address and abate global warming on a planetary scale – from solar radiation modification to marine CO2 disposal. This will be a technical introduction including governance, policy and regulatory gaps.
Descripción de la sesión
The core of the session will be a series of short technical presentations on the main technologies being developed/advanced to address and abate global warming at a planetary, including reducing solar radiative load (solar radiation modification - SRM); and enhanced atmospheric carbon dioxide removal (such as ocean fertilisation). There are major unknown risks and implications of each of these approaches. All have transboundary impacts. The session will explore the applicable international policy and regulatory frameworks to prepare participants to assess their ability to effectively and equitably address the risks and benefits of these technologies. This session will prepare participants for a second session on who decides on their deployment and on what basis would a decision be made - what is IUCN’s role?Organised by
