Descripción de la sesión
This action-oriented session challenges traditional conservation by centering gender justice as essential to sustainable, equitable outcomes. Anchored in Target 23 of the Global Biodiversity Framework and the CBD Gender Plan of Action (GPA), it examines intersectional barriers facing women—including Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and Afro-descendant women—in biodiversity governance and benefit-sharing. With the CBD GPA mid-term review approaching at CBD COP17 in Armenia, speakers will share concrete progress, gaps, and near-term priorities to accelerate gender equality across policies, practices, and funding. The event will also spotlight the Gender and Biodiversity Champions initiative—championed by the Global Environment Facility—as a platform uniting governments, intergovernmental agencies, Indigenous Peoples and local communities, civil society, funders, private sector, and academia to renew commitments and co-create solutions. The message is clear: gender justice is not an add-on; it is foundational to effective conservation.Moderator
