Session Description

Introduction: Brief opening on the globally innovative data-driven decision-making tool for impactful marine conservation and sustainable development strategies, policy, and investments.

Main content: BLUE SPI method and results in vulnerable communities in Panama and Costa Rica. Description of the quality of life, social progress, challenges and aspirations of coastal households (by community/region; fishing vs. non-fishing) through four dimensions: Basic Human Needs, Foundations of Well-being, Opportunities, and Blue Sustainability (emphasis on marine-coastal relationships focused on governance and management, blue economy, sociocultural connections with the ocean, climate adaptation and resilience). Convergence of critical ecologic connectivity elements linking local and transboundary social and environmental dynamics. Open discussion on informed planning and policy to drive efficient and effective strategies and investment in contribution to enhanced marine stewardship, improved MPA social and environmental benefits, strengthened inclusion and gender equity, access rights, sustainable development in face of climate change, others.
