Desalination underpins MENA’s water security and economic resilience. Its expansion offers opportunities for innovation, investment, and collaboration. This session brings together policymakers, scientists, industry, and financiers to chart a framework for sustainable desalination that balances growth with ocean health, climate resilience, and long-term regional sustainability.
Descripción de la sesión
Desalination underpins water security and economic stability in the MENA region and is projected to expand significantly in the coming decades. While essential, this growth brings environmental implications for marine ecosystems, coastal resilience, and sustainable resource use. Part of the MENA Oceans Summit 2025, this Deepdive Session brings together leading scientists, industry actors, financiers, and policy experts to co-develop a sectoral framework for sustainable desalination and water management. Discussions will identify ongoing projects, relevant stakeholders, and innovation gaps, and propose recommendations to align industry practice, regulation, and finance with ocean sustainability and climate resilience. As the launchpad for a dedicated Working Group under the MENA Oceans Network, this session sets the stage for continued regional collaboration towards the development of regionally owned standards and pathways for ocean-positive sector transformation, securing water resources while safeguarding the MENA region's seas.Organised by
