Descripción de la sesión

As society confronts accelerating biodiversity loss, climate instability, and widening inequities, natural history museums are emerging as powerful agents of change. No longer simply repositories of the past, these institutions leverage centuries of research, global collections, and deep community engagement to drive bold conservation action.

This talk will showcase how the Natural History Museum is scaling up resilient conservation through international research collaborations and innovative digital twin technologies (“twinformatics”). It will highlight contributions to reducing climate overshoot risks via data-rich reconstructions of past ecological tipping points, while advancing equity by embedding Indigenous knowledge and co-developing research models.

The session will further explore how museums support transitions to nature-positive economies through citizen science, youth empowerment, and policy engagement. Finally, it will spotlight how disruptive innovations—from AI-enabled taxonomy to immersive education platforms—are reshaping the conservation narrative, positioning museums as radical, hopeful actors in a time of planetary crisis.
