Why attend
Transboundary cooperation for biodiversity conservation responds to the needs of ensuring both a more effective management of biodiversity and the inclusion of different governmental and non-governmental actors and authorities: This podcast will show the advantages and limitations of transboundary biodiversity conservation by illustrating four European examples.
Session Description
In the form of an interview with qualified researchers, this podcast will showcase four examples of transboundary cooperation in the field of biodiversity conservation in Europe: (1) the Julian Alps (Italy/Slovenia); (2) the Scheldt Estuary (Belgium/the Netherlands); (3) the EGTC ZASNET (Spain/Portugal); (4) the Torne River Watershed (Finland/Sweden/Norway). These cases are characterized by different forms of cooperative frameworks, involving different actors and authorities. They are also embedded in very different contexts, with different protected habitats and species and a different level of economic pressures. The podcast will describe the context in which cooperation takes place and will also propose a comparative analysis with a view to evaluating the effectiveness of cooperation implemented in each case study.
