Por qué asistir

This session highlights how the sustainable use and trade of wild species can drive both conservation and equitable livelihoods. It is a unique opportunity to explore innovative solutions for transitioning to nature-positive economies and addressing global biodiversity goals.

Descripción de la sesión

The Wildlife Economy is an approach that integrates the sustainable use of wild species into conservation and livelihood strategies. This session focuses on operationalising GBF Targets 5 and 9. Target 5 emphasizes halting overexploitation and ensuring sustainable use of wild species, creating frameworks for legal use while conserving species populations and reducing illegal trade. Target 9 focuses on fair and equitable benefit-sharing from wild species, empowering local, rural and Indigenous communities to derive sustainable benefits while supporting biodiversity. Experts will share insights and tools to advance legal and sustainable wildlife use, linking biodiversity, livelihoods, and global goals. The session covers wildlife-economy strategies, including the SADC and South African strategies, AWF, UNEP, IPBES reports, AWEI and ALU SOWC analyses and CBD decisions on sustainable wildlife management. Interactive discussions allow participants to explore key elements of sustainable wildlife management, governance, and market-based solutions while co-developing actionable recommendations to implement in their respective contexts.
