This event show cases the Caribbean Wetlands and the work currently being done through funding by the International Climate Initiative of the German Government in conjunction with the Ramsar Secretariat and IUCN on the preservation and management of wetland ecosystems in the region.

This session will present the importance of incorporating the Wise Use Approach, as defined by the Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands and its technical bodies, into the management of Wetlands of International Importance in the Caribbean Region. It addresses the challenges, vulnerabilities, and opportunities identified through the development of technical information aimed at improving effective management and supporting the enhancement of national policies and legislation necessary for the long-term protection of wetland ecosystems. Successes and challenges alike of the project implementation in its regional setting will be discussed, as well as future priorities, potential synergies with other conventions such as the Global Biodiversity Framework. Cases studies from the Caribbean will also be highlighted as testament to the important role donors and implementing agencies have in ensuring the protection and management of wetlands in the Caribbean RegionSpeaker
