Why attend

Join this session to learn more about an innovative and inclusive approach to conservation and its implementation in Namibia, Kenya, and Tanzania. You will hear first hand from community representatives how this benefits them and you will be invited to participate in further scaling of the approach to advance conservation.

Session Description

Wildlife Credits, an innovative conservation performance payment mechanism that recognises the role of local communities as custodians of natural resources, will be presented by field practitioners and beneficiaries from Namibia, Tanzania, and Kenya. During a presentation, the audience will learn more about the background and methodology of the approach, focussing on the involvement of local communities through co-creation of conservation outcomes and indicators. This is followed by a short fish bowl session, involving both the audience and panellists (young professionals from the region, community representatives, and government representatives), who will exchange on challenges and benefits of Wildlife Credits, as well as identify opportunities for further scaling. We will also discuss how this approach is connected to the Biodiversity Credit market as well as other sustainable finance opportunities. We will spend the final section of the session on a concrete pitch for both corporate and philanthropic investors.
