This event aims to reinforce the essential participation of civil society and businesses in the implementation of Protected Areas. A brief analysis of the Cooperation Agreements established by the Brazilian federal government with private partners for this purpose will be presented, along with practical examples of this type of partnerships.

Session Description

We will discuss the importance of public-private partnerships for the management of Protected Areas in Brazil. Brazil has 344 federal protected areas covering 171,662,360 hectares (9.29% continental area and 25.33% marine area). Over the last 20 years, the federal government has invested an average of 0.018% of the federal budget in biodiversity and landscape protection (R$12.4 billion in total). Given the chronic resource constraints for this area, it is likely that allocating resources to such areas will become increasingly difficult. Therefore, the need to increase and support
