Biography
Johannes Els is a herpetologist specialising in Arabian reptiles and amphibians with a strong focus on conservation. He is Operations Manager of the Arabia’s Wildlife Centre and regional chair of the IUCN Viper, Snake and Freshwater Fish Specialist Groups. A Fellow of The Linnean Society, he leads both in situ and ex situ conservation initiatives, including the world’s largest captive breeding programme for Arabian freshwater fishes. He is also author and co-author of several publications, including Freshwater Fishes of the Arabian Peninsula and the Field Guide to the Reptiles of Oman.
