Discover the role of Indigenous Peoples Members at the IUCN Governance, updates from the Global Indigenous Agenda, with updates on progress since 2021, upcoming regional priorities, and the role of IPO in IUCN’s 2025–2029 Programme.
Session Description
This session will focus on the implementation of the “Global Indigenous Agenda for the Governance of Indigenous Lands, Territories, Waters, Coastal Seas and Natural Resources“ adopted by consensus by IUCN Indigenous Peoples’ members and highlights the achievements of IUCN as a Secretariat on this front since the 2021 World Conservation Congress in Marseille. Participants will learn about the governance mechanisms within IUCN and the central role of Indigenous Peoples in shaping and advancing them. Regional updates will showcase progress in implementing the Global Indigenous Agenda, activities undertaken since 2021, and plans for the years ahead. The session will also introduce the IUCN Programme for 2025–2029 and the 20-year vision, emphasising how Indigenous Peoples are integrated as key actors driving transformative change in conservation and sustainable governance globally.Speaker
