Session Description

This session highlights the central role of Indigenous leadership in shaping a just and transformative climate agenda. By foregrounding Indigenous knowledge systems, governance traditions, and lived experiences, it redefines global climate narratives to move beyond conventional state-led approaches. Speakers will share insights on how Indigenous-led solutions are advancing resilience, equity, and sustainability at local and global scales. The discussion will also review progress since recent climate negotiations and provide an update on the state of talks leading to the Climate Change Conference in Belém (COP30). Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the pathways through which Indigenous leadership informs international climate policy, and how this leadership can ensure that future frameworks are more inclusive, effective, and accountable to the communities most affected by climate change.
