Laurence Pessez

Biography

As creator of the Sustainability function within the group, Laurence is managing BNP Paribas related policy and contributed to obtaining several awards such as the “World Best Bank for Sustainable Finance” delivered by Euromoney 3 years in a row.

Amongst others, Laurence has supported the alignment approach of the group’s activities to contribute to a Net-Zero economy by 2050, approach whose results were awarded by the prize “Net zero Progression of the year” for the EMEA region by the Environmental Finance magazine.

She also significantly furthered the group’s considerations regarding biodiversity, for which BNP Paribas took pioneer commitments on the Ocean protection and to fight against deforestation. Moreover, the bank has been an active member of the Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosure. 

Laurence is finally very committed for social topics that are one of the group’s priorities, the bank was also awarded “World’s Best Bank for Financial Inclusion” by Euromoney in 2024.

In addition to her management position at BNP Paribas, Laurence is Vice-Chair of the European think tank Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI), board member of the global network of sustainable business experts Business for Social Responsibility (BSR), and an elected member on the Banking Board of the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) of the UNEP FI (United Nations Environment - Finance Initiative).

Before joining BNP Paribas, she held various senior management positions in several other corporations. Laurence graduated from the prestigious French School Sciences Po Paris.
