Session Description

Transforming climate and biodiversity finance requires a shift toward Indigenous-led governance and direct funding access. The Inclusive Conservation Initiative (ICI) and global partners prioritize Indigenous leadership in conservation decision-making. This session brings together IUCN, CI, ICI partners, and initiatives like the Podong Initiative, IPFAF, and DGM to explore innovative financing and governance models that empower Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs). Through case studies, discussions, and interactive exercises, participants will examine best practices in reshaping conservation finance. The session will directly contribute to COP 30 commitments and the Global Biodiversity Framework Fund (GBFF), ensuring IPLC-led solutions are central to conservation efforts. Highlighting scalable models for direct financing and governance transformation, this dialogue reinforces IPLCs as key environmental stewards. Attendees will leave with actionable insights on mobilizing resources for sustainable conservation, strengthening IPLC leadership, and advancing global biodiversity goals.
