Session Description

Sustainable blue tourism models can offer substantial opportunities to enhance local livelihoods while safeguarding coastal and marine ecosystems and supporting environmental stewardship and more resilient socioeconomic development.
This session will provide a global perspective, tapping into assessments from three key tourism regions from the Blue Tourism Initiative —the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Western Indian Ocean—, to explore the nexus between tourism and biodiversity preservation, with a focus on emerging solutions that align with nature-positive tourism Then, participants will be divided into groups for discussion at small group tables on key tourism segments, including eco-tourism, conservation-driven tourism models and community-based tourism. Participants will share knowledge, best practices and challenges while using the space to achieve cross-regional solutions and enlarge their network.
The final plenary will synthesise key takeaways, identifying scalable models for conservation and governance, fostering new partnerships and strengthening global efforts for sustainable blue tourism.
