Session Description

This is an in-depth, ‘deep-dive’ Learning Zone session to provide participants with a thorough understanding of the new IUCN Policy, Programme and Strategy on Antarctica and the Southern Ocean (‘the Strategy’), and to contribute to the development of an Action Plan. Learn about the amazing species and ecosystems that inhabit the stunning region, the threats they face, and the existing Antarctic governance and decisions frameworks. Hear from experts about potential solutions, including those offered by emerging technologies. Discuss what work is being undertaken within IUCN and what is being proposed in the new Strategy. Workshop innovative ways for IUCN to help improve conservation of these precious and unique species and ecosystems, from science diplomacy to rights-based approaches to the use of technologies. Help develop proposals and join the new networks formed to progress this important work.
