Why attend

At this session, several IUCN country and other members, along with other key organizations working on biodiversity finance, will share their experiences and current work on public and private sector biodiversity finance, the challenges they meet, and innovations being developed or implemented across the globe.

Session Description

A significant funding gap exists for biodiversity conservation, estimated globally at US$ 700 billion annually. Public sources dominate current funding, but significantly increasing the role of private investment is urgently needed. Several IUCN country and other members, along with other organizations, will share their experiences in public and private biodiversity finance, the challenges they meet, and innovations being developed or implemented, especially in national biodiversity finance plans. The discussion highlights differences and similarities between different countries, and offers innovations and lessons learned that could be applicable across countries. Following presentations, a dynamic group discussion ensues. Working in small groups, participants will explore a range of questions and topics. To foster a rich exchange of ideas, participants will rotate between groups every 10 minutes. At the end of the session, each group will share key discussion points, which will be synthesized into valuable lessons learned for the entire group.
