Why attend

Launched in August 2023 and born out of the CBD COP15, the Global Biodiversity Framework Fund (GBFF), has already programmed $202 million in 41 countries. Join this high-level session to explore early achievements, hear perspectives from diverse stakeholders, and learn how the GBFF is advancing inclusive global biodiversity action.

Session Description

The Global Biodiversity Framework Fund (GBFF) supports country-led and innovative actions to halt and reverse biodiversity loss, aligned with the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. It finances transformative projects that contribute to conserve 30% of land, sea, and inland waters, restore 30% of degraded ecosystems, and close the $200 billion annual biodiversity funding gap by 2030. Established in August 2023, the GBFF quickly garnered significant support, with $386 million pledged by 12 sovereign and subnational contributors. It has enhanced governance model and targets for support to Indigenous Peoples and local communities (IPLCs), small island developing States (SIDS), and least developed countries (LDCs). To date, $201.6 million has been programmed across 41 countries, providing significant support to IPLCs. This high-level session will bring together governments, donors, IPLCs, the GEF Secretariat and Agencies, and other stakeholders to reflect on early achievements and explore opportunities to further accelerate inclusive biodiversity action.
