This session will highlight practical approaches to safeguarding both people and animals during crises, offering valuable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and conservationists in the MENA region.

Session Description

Responding to disasters has become a frequent occurrence in recent years, necessitating careful response, recovery, mitigation, and preparedness. For humans and animals whether companion, community, or wildlife disaster planning not only increases resilience but also plays a critical role in scaling up conservation impact. With the rising frequency of human induced and natural disasters in the MENA region and globally, this session will provide participants with insights into the Disaster Cycle and the importance of developing national Risk Assessment Reports. The event will emphasize methods for disaster planning that integrate animal and human welfare, protect biodiversity, and maximize resilience at both community and regional levels. By highlighting the interconnectedness of animal welfare, conservation goals, and resilient societies, the session will showcase how addressing animal needs during disasters fosters stronger, more sustainable communities.
