Why attend

Join leading researchers and practitioners from Kuwait and the region to explore innovative, multi-dimensional strategies to conserve and restore desert ecosystems. This session highlights how science, traditional knowledge, and inclusive governance can strengthen resilience, protect biodiversity, and support sustainable livelihoods under accelerating climate change and ecological degradation.

Session Description

Global desert ecosystems are under increasing threat from climate change, over-extraction of water, unsustainable grazing, and habitat fragmentation. This session showcases integrated strategies to restore ecological functions and scale up resilience across arid landscapes. Topics include native vegetation restoration, keystone species protection, sustainable water harvesting, agroforestry, and soil enhancement. Drawing from both scientific research and traditional ecological knowledge, the session emphasizes inclusive governance and the active role of Indigenous peoples, pastoralists, women, and youth in conservation planning. Innovative tools such as remote sensing, AI-driven monitoring, and community-led initiatives will be presented as gamechangers for desert conservation. Participants will gain practical insights from case studies in Kuwait and the region, offering pathways to link restoration with sustainable livelihoods, such as ecotourism and regenerative land use. This event underscores the urgent need for resilient, equitable, and innovative approaches to safeguard desert ecosystems.
