Session Description
Rangelands, covering more than half of the Earth’s terrestrial surface, are the world’s largest land use type and play a vital role in mitigating climate change, conserving biodiversity, and supporting pastoral communities. Yet, they face escalating threats from climatic shocks, land conversion, and poor management, leading to degradation that undermines both ecological integrity and local livelihoods. This side event explores how science in action—through data systems, participatory methods, and digital innovations—can transform the future of sustainable land management. It will showcase practical approaches that combine scientific evidence with indigenous knowledge to promote restoration, combat desertification, and enhance resilience. By highlighting innovative tools, community-driven solutions, and research-based practices, the event aims to demonstrate how sustainable rangeland management can strengthen ecological health, ensure long-term productivity, and safeguard the well-being of pastoralists who depend on these ecosystems.Organised by
