Jose MONTEIRO

Biography

With a Master's degree in Forest Ecology, from Copenhagen University, José has a strong focus on the community governance of land and natural resources, as path for sustainability and livelihood improvement. Starting his journey in 1998 at Eduardo Mondlane University, he worked as a Communication Officer at Secretariat for Eastern Africa Coastal Area Management (SEACAM), gaining experience in conservation, communication, and project management. After graduating in 2004 , José led the forest research activities in Sussundenga District and became head of the Sussundenga Forest Research Station after completing his Master's from Copenhagen University in 2008. In 2009, he started working for Community Land initiative (iTC), a former lead institution in securing community land rights, where under the role of knowledge manager, authored influential articles to the land sector in Mozambique. In 2018, he led the process of  establishment of the CBNRM Network (ReGeCom) in Mozambique, as the first of its kind institution and platform, that amplify communities voices, while promoting community-led conservation to enhance rural livelihoods and biodiversity conservation.
