Why attend

Whether you work in government, civil society, business or academia, this interactive learning session will help you understand some of the available resources that can support your monitoring needs and help unblock your access to biodiversity data for conservation planning and monitoring.

Session Description

We will only achieve effective Nature-positive outcomes if all actors, from governments to civil society to the private sector, have the data they need to plan and monitor conservation and restoration interventions, to apply adaptive management and report and disclose impact. However, many actors struggle to access the data they need for a variety of reasons. In the last few years, the IUCN SSC Species Monitoring Specialist Group has been working with numerous partners to study blockages to data flow and provide a range of solutions to help build capacity for monitoring. This session will convene an interactive Biodiversity Monitoring Toolbox Marketplace to introduce participants to a suite of lessons, guidelines, tools, data platforms and knowledge products available to support the monitoring of biodiversity states and pressures and conservation responses. It will draw on the experience of diverse experts from the IUCN Secretariat, IUCN Commissions and IUCN Members.
