Why attend

Learn the impacts of the rapidly expanding liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry in the Gulf of California. Then, understand ways to protect and resiliently conserve this precious and unique area through mobilizing at community, state, and international levels.

Session Description

The oil and gas industry is pursuing expansive developments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals and fracked methane gas pipelines around the world. Not only is the lock-in of LNG detrimental to the climate, but such rapid expansion also causes numerous negative impacts to marine and terrestrial life. This session will spotlight the Gulf of California, and shed light on the LNG projects jeopardizing this precious and unique area. The session will present the latest science on the impacts to biodiversity and the growing conservation efforts. It will encourage ideas from the audience to help prevent the habitat and species loss brought about by LNG industrialization.
